Passenger Focus responds to Government's rail electrification plans

09.12.2009

Passenger Focus has welcomed the Government’s commitment to extend the rail electrification programmes announced earlier this year.

Anthony Smith, Passenger Focus chief executive, said: “We look forward to seeing the detail of these plans. Passengers will benefit from an electrified network as it will improve reliability and potentially speed up services which could reduce passengers’ journey times. Passengers tell us that more trains, punctual services and getting a seat should be the industry’s top priority and electrification will help address these.

“However, while passengers will benefit from electrification, as with any major investment in infrastructure, this project will cause huge disruption. The industry must make certain this disruption is managed and passengers are given plenty of information before and during the works.”
